Beatdown shall we say?
MSU stomped Alcorn State 51-7, Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium, in an offensive outburst that included 7 touchdowns (called it!).
Sophomore QB Dak Prescott led the way, tossing two touchdowns and scoring the game's first points on an 11-yard keeper. It's easy to wonder if he should take Tyler Russell's start next week against Auburn. But one must remember, this is Alcorn State, who State held a 37-0 halftime lead over.

Russell, of course, was on the sideline from a Week 1 concussion. He wasn't the only key player missing. S Jay Hughes is out for the season with an achilles injury. And RB LaDarius Perkins, S Nickoe Whitley rested in order to be fully healed for the upcoming SEC competition.
Although the performance was fairly expected--dominant defensive effort, highlight-heavy offense, a missed kick (classic!)--one big surprise was freshman RB Ashton Shumpert, who ended the day with 2 TD's, 98 yards and a confidence boost.
And the same must go for the Dawgs as a whole. Which was exactly what the doctor ordered. After all, next week is the SEC.
